Certified & Convenient Vehicle Inspections
Whether you’re registering your vehicle in Maryland for the first time or just need a certified safety check, Ilyas Auto & Body is your trusted inspection station. We’re fully licensed to perform Maryland State Vehicle Inspections on cars, trucks, SUVs, and trailers with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less.
What’s Inspected? (For Vehicles Under 10,000 lbs)
Your safety is our priority. Below is the full Maryland State Inspection Checklist we follow:
Systems & Safety Components
Steering System
The steering system allows the driver to control the direction of the vehicle. It includes components like the steering wheel, steering column, rack and pinion, or steering box.
Wheel Alignment
Wheel alignment ensures the wheels are set to the correct angles for optimal contact with the road. Proper alignment improves handling, tire life, and fuel efficiency.
Suspension
The suspension system supports the vehicle’s weight and absorbs shocks from the road. It enhances ride comfort and maintains tire contact for better handling.
Brake System
The brake system slows down or stops the vehicle by converting kinetic energy into heat. It includes components like brake pads, discs, calipers, and brake fluid.
Fuel System
The fuel system stores and delivers fuel to the engine for combustion. Key components include the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel injectors, and fuel filter.
Exhaust System
The exhaust system directs and treats engine gases, reducing emissions and noise. It includes components like the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, muffler, and tailpipe.
Emissions Equipment
Emissions equipment reduces harmful pollutants produced by the engine. It includes components like the catalytic converter, EGR valve, oxygen sensors, and EVAP system.
Interior & Safety
- Speedometer / Odometer
The speedometer shows the vehicle’s current speed, while the odometer records the total distance traveled. Both help the driver monitor driving conditions and vehicle usage. - Driver’s Seat
The driver’s seat provides a comfortable and adjustable position for the driver to operate the vehicle safely. It often includes safety features like seat belts and airbags. - Seat Belts (Functionality & Condition)
Seat belts restrain occupants during a collision to reduce injury. They must be functional, properly fastened, and in good condition without frays or damage.
Mechanical Components
- Wheels & Tires
Wheels support the tires and enable vehicle movement, while tires provide traction and absorb shocks. Proper tire condition and pressure are essential for safety and performance. - Motor Mounts
Motor mounts secure the engine to the vehicle’s frame, reducing vibrations and preventing engine movement during operation. They help ensure smooth and stable engine performance. - Universal & CV (Constant Velocity) Joints
Universal and CV (Constant Velocity) joints connect the driveshaft to the wheels, allowing smooth power transfer while accommodating suspension movement and steering angles. They ensure efficient and flexible drivetrain operation. - Gear Shift Indicator
The gear shift indicator displays the current gear selection to the driver, helping ensure proper and safe gear changes. It improves driving convenience and prevents transmission damage.
Trailer Inspection Checklist
We also inspect trailers! Here’s what we look at during a trailer inspection:
- Hitches
Allow towing of trailers or other equipment by securely attaching them to the vehicle. - Suspension
Supports the vehicle’s weight and absorbs road shocks for a smooth ride and better handling. - Brake System
Slows or stops the vehicle by converting kinetic energy into heat, using components like pads, discs, and fluid. - Emergency Brakes
A backup braking system that holds the vehicle stationary when parked or in emergencies. - Wheels & Tires
Wheels support tires, which provide traction and absorb shocks; proper condition is vital for safety. - Rear Metal Frame
The structural part at the vehicle’s rear that supports body panels and absorbs impact. - Rear Wheel Flaps
Protect the vehicle and others from mud, rocks, and debris thrown by the rear tires. - Lights
Include headlights, taillights, and signals that ensure visibility and communication on the road. - Electrical System
Powers vehicle components like lights, ignition, and accessories using the battery and alternator. - Fenders
Cover the wheel wells to protect against debris and enhance aerodynamics and appearance.
Exterior & Structural
Bumpers
Bumpers are designed to absorb minor impacts and protect the vehicle’s front and rear. They also enhance safety for pedestrians and reduce damage in low-speed collisions.
Fenders
Fenders cover and protect the wheel wells, preventing mud, rocks, and debris from being thrown up by the tires. They also contribute to the vehicle’s aerodynamics and style.
Hood & Hood Catches
The hood covers and protects the engine compartment, providing access for maintenance. Hood catches (or latches) securely hold the hood closed while driving and allow it to be safely opened when needed.
Doors & Door Handle Latches
Doors provide access to the vehicle’s interior and protect occupants. Door handle latches allow the doors to be securely opened and closed, ensuring safety and convenience.
Floor & Trunk Pans
Floor and trunk pans are structural panels that form the base of the vehicle’s cabin and trunk. They provide support, protect against road debris, and contribute to the vehicle’s overall rigidity.
Mirrors
Mirrors provide the driver with a view of the surroundings and blind spots to improve safety. They include rearview mirrors inside and side mirrors mounted on the doors or fenders.
Lights
(Headlights, Taillights, Turn Signals, etc.)
Lights like headlights, taillights, and turn signals ensure visibility and communication on the road. They help drivers see ahead, signal intentions, and increase safety for all road users.
Windows & Glazing
(no cracks or illegal tint — 35% minimum)
Windows and glazing provide visibility while protecting occupants from weather and debris. They must be free of cracks and comply with legal tint limits, usually allowing at least 35% light transmission.
Wipers
Wipers clear rain, snow, and debris from the windshield to maintain visibility. They consist of blades and a motorized arm that moves them across the glass.
